UK should commit now to at least 10 GW new nuclear

The UK should commit now to a least 10 GW of additional new Generation III+ reactor capacity beyond Hinkley Point C and support development programmes for the deployment of small modular reactors and advanced Generation IV reactors, a report published on Thursday says.

Support for SMRs and Generation IV would provide a clearer indication of the likelihood of realising the benefits from these two technologies and their role in helping the UK meet its target of a net zero energy system by 2050.
